GULTSKRA ARTIKLER AND LANTERNS
***This is an actual vinyl mailout so the quantities are limited. We can provide digital version upon request. If you are a music editor or freelancer interested in receiving a copy, please email us to confirm or add your name to the servicing list.*** Second in a series of vinyl only releases, Other Electricities presents Berezka/Monkey Lament by Russian avant-folk artist Gultskra Artikler and the UK drone outfit Lanterns. Complementary by nature of thoughtful experimentation, kindred by their undeniably enveloping output, Berezka/Monkey Lament brings the creations of Gultskra Artikler and Lanterns together in a familiar format, with unique contributions from each. Exclusive tracks and artwork dawn each side of a limited edition LP, displaying the artists’ visions for their side of this entrancing combination record. Gultskra Artikler is a project of Alexey Devyanin. Originally from Novosibirsk, Russia, he is currently based in Moscow. His art absorbs the feeling of the inclement winters and endless snow-white landscapes. The music of GA lives in its own way, it has no prototypes. It’s a unique mixture of brutal and honest vibes of mysterious Siberian soul and hi-tech-nologies, unpredictable electro-acoustic and avant-garde instrumental movements, precision electronic manipulations and strange field recordings. A sort of Neo-folk cyber-psychedelia. Since 2004, Alexey has actively released his sounds in various formats and quantities on labels such as Miasmah, Lampse, Autoplate, Nexsound, Hyperboloid and SAAG. Originally conceived sometime in 2005, Lanterns formed as a tribute to disobedients past and present. A desire to experiment with the limited tools available to them in a quest for new modes of expression has led to hours of recordings, some of which made their way onto releases by labels such as Sloow Tapes, Beyond Repair, Blackest Rainbow as well as their own Screeching Snowflake imprint. Lanterns certainly dig the spirit of improvisation but in a gonzo knuckle headed fashion where the process is as important as the results and friends who would not normally consider themselves to be musicians have been drafted in for jams, all of which are recorded into one microphone with minimal editing. The moment of 'now' is always key in a Lanterns jam and when that is found the experience can be truly magical. Keen to find a balance between beauty and ugliness, sweet with the sour, dissonance and harmony, randomness with control, their brand of emotive Kosmische music is the kind that draws you in gently and spits you out at the other end. Lanterns is currently slimmed down to a duo of Luke and Andreas, mainly playing a combination of guitars, keyboards and various amplified acoustic sound sources, and Geographically split between Leeds and Glasgow. Praise for Berezka/Monkey Lament:
"An enjoyable excursion." -Ampersand Etc.
